The problem
Patients with late-stage heart failure often rely on Left Ventricular Assist Devices (LVADs) that require external power sources and driveline cables passing through the skin. These systems increase the risk of infections, limit mobility, reduce quality of life, and create ongoing challenges for patients, caregivers, and clinicians. Despite decades of demand, a practical fully implantable LVAD solution has remained unavailable.
What we built
Corvion is a medical technology company developing a next-generation, fully implantable Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) system for patients with late-stage heart failure. Its mission is to eliminate the limitations of conventional LVADs by creating a safer, more reliable, and patient-friendly solution that improves quality of life while addressing the needs of both patients and healthcare providers. Fully implantable LVAD technology — Develops an LVAD system designed to operate entirely within the body, eliminating the need for external driveline cables that are common in traditional devices and reducing infection risks. Improved patient quality of life — Focuses on enabling greater mobility, comfort, and independence by removing many of the daily limitations associated with externally powered heart assist devices. Patient- and physician-driven innovation — Designed based on extensive feedback from cardiologists, surgeons, patients, and caregivers to address the real-world shortcomings of existing heart failure support systems. Next-generation heart failure treatment — Pursues a fresh engineering approach to mechanical circulatory support, aiming to deliver a solution that is safer, more reliable, and better suited for long-term use than conventional LVAD technologies. Advancing cardiovascular care — Rather than making incremental improvements to existing devices, Corvion is developing a transformative technology that has the potential to redefine long-term treatment options for patients living with advanced heart failure.
