The problem
Plastic pollution is one of the world's most pressing environmental challenges, threatening marine ecosystems, wildlife, and human health. While awareness of the issue has grown, many communities lack the education, collaboration, and practical tools needed to reduce plastic waste and drive long-term systemic change. Individual clean-up efforts alone are not enough to solve the problem.
What we built
Plastic Oceans International is a global nonprofit organization dedicated to ending plastic pollution through education, storytelling, science, advocacy, and community engagement. By combining impactful films with local action and cross-sector collaboration, the organization empowers communities to develop scalable circular economy solutions that create lasting environmental change. Education through storytelling — Uses award-winning documentaries, educational resources, and community film screenings to raise awareness about plastic pollution and inspire individuals and organizations to take meaningful action. Community-led environmental action — Brings together citizens, businesses, educators, researchers, and policymakers to identify local environmental challenges and implement collaborative solutions tailored to each community. Science and advocacy initiatives — Supports research, public education, and policy advocacy that encourage sustainable production, responsible consumption, and circular economy practices to reduce plastic waste at its source. Global network of impact programs — Partners with communities worldwide through initiatives that promote conservation, waste reduction, ecosystem restoration, and environmental leadership, creating measurable local and global impact. Systemic approach to plastic pollution — Rather than focusing solely on cleanup efforts, Plastic Oceans International addresses the root causes of plastic pollution by driving behavioral change, supporting circular solutions, and empowering communities to build a more sustainable future.
